Nintendo Direct: What to Expect?

Recently On Nintendo Direct…

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’ve always had a special place in my heart for Nintendo. Most of us grew up with their games right? Well Nintendo is still around, but aren’t seen in the same light, mostly because their games are not as “hardcore” as other systems. However, before did it really matter how hardcore the game was? Or was it about if you had fun or not? Hopefully the latter, cause that’s why we all like playing games; because they’re fun!

Recently, Nintendo uploaded a new Nintendo Direct. It featured some of the newest games coming to Wii U and 3DS. If you’re interested in all the juicy details, you can take the time to watch the video, but I would like to point out a few things that seemed pretty interesting.

 Animal Crossing New Leaf

I spent many hours playing Animal Crossing as a child. The game was the perfect fantasy life, but I was pretty disappointed when the second and third titles were released. Each one seemed less appealing than the first as features continued to disappear. We lost holidays and events, the island, and other additions beloved by gamers. Well, this Animal Crossing has brought everything back…and more!

We didn’t get to hear much about New Leaf in the most recent Nintendo Direct, but no worries. If you’re interested in the additions, videos are easily found on YouTube. Many westerners picked up the game early, disregarding the complete Japanese text. Others have been waiting for the English release, coming June 9. As a bonus, owners with the Western copies will have the chance to download Nintendo designed houses.

For curious ones, here’s a few of the newer features.

  • Nook’s Homes: A real estate agency. It is managed by Tom Nook and run by Lyle.
  • Re-Tail: A recycling store which buys items at 20% higher than Nook’s old stores in previous games. Reese and Cyrus run it.
  • Kicks: A footwear store owned and run by Kicks. It sells shoes, socks and other footwear. It is an improvement on Kicks’ old trade of shining shoes in the City in City Folk.
  • Gardening Store: A gardening store run by Leif. It sells flowers, saplings, axes and watering cans.
  • Club LOL: An entertainment venue. It is run by Dr. Shrunk, who is now retired. K.K. Slider performs here by playing his songs or as a DJ. The player can also learn emotions from Dr. Shrunk.
  • The island is back!
  • Houses can now be customized to a further extent than before.
  • Players now have the  power to customize their village’s landscape.
  • Villagers are more diverse.

Legend of Zelda Oracle of Ages/Seasons

Zelda-560x316

As another signature title, the older Legend of Zelda games are back in action. Players will be able to enjoy Legend of Zelda Oracles of Ages and Oracle of Seasons on the go. These two games hit the Nintendo Eshop for 4.99 on May 30. Sounds like a reasonable price right?  They even have new features, such as connectivity between the two games and a new final boss.

Even if  you’re not a Zelda fan, these two are a great way to get into the series.

Sonic: Lost World

Sonic-New-World-557x316
Would be great for wallpaper.

Sonic was given a brief mention during Nintendo Direct, along with an ominous image. From the picture, it looks like Sega is sticking with Sonic and Tails for this one, just like the recent game, Sonic Colors.

Sadly for owners of PS3 or Xbox 360, this game is looking at a 3DS and Wii U release only. We can look forward to hearing more about the game during E3.

What do you think? Are you excited for the new announcements, or disappointed? What do you expect to see at E3?

  1. So Nintendo doesn't have as much 3rd party support as it used to and the Wii has been home to shovelware. What about the Nintendo exclusives? What about the 1st party games? What about the PS and Kinect constantly trying to rip off Nintendo's (mostly) awesome accessories?

The only reason I picked a PS3 over a Wii was because the PS3 had more games that I wanted. Now that the Wii-U will have more 3rd party support (hopefully) and it has reverse compatibility, why would I not buy a Wii-U?

    1. I thought I was one of the few people to notice the PlayStation and Kinect's accessories bearing heavy resemblance to Nintendo's. I've heard mostly complaints about the 3rd party support and the lack of games for Wii. It's usually what people state when they talk about not liking the Wii or Wii U. It seems like at least now the Wii U is going to focus more on that.

They even mentioned providing the States with games that would normally be import only. I have to say the Wii U is looking pretty good right now, and to be honest I'm getting kind of bored of my PS3. (I have a Wii U myself, but I don't use it that much for the time being.) We'll probably be seeing a whole lot of older games, and more 3rd party support, as a bonus to the new Nintendo exclusives that were mentioned.

    2. I already have a Wii U and the 3rd party support isn't great right now. Maybe you haven't followed the latest news about the console because 3rd party support seems to be going down the drain right now. EA has no planned games for Wii U right now(not that I care about EA anyway) and also a lot of 3rd party is already dropping to port any Wii U games in favor of PS3, Xbox, PC and PS4 due to the low sales Wii U are having.

I'm just stating the truth and don't make me one of the reason you don't wanna get a Wii U. I get it for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate to play online and that is not all though. Virtual Console as in old Nintendo games is also really nice on the Wii U and also independent developers seems to be having a nice time developing games on the Wii U instead of PS3. It has it's fair share of good games and the one that is going to be giving life to the Wii U all comes from Nintendo themselves. More Nintendo exclusive games on Wii U is a win for the console.

The first 5 months so far of Wii U sales aren't that impressive but i'm pretty sure the sales will go up next year. It's just like the slow start 3DS are having and it seems like it's becoming a new trend where people wait for the console price to be dropped before buying anything. The Vita sales would be the same as well.

  2. I'm glad there is some post about this. I was planning to do this type of post like on Monday but nevermind lol!
I am becoming more of a Nintendo fanboy, it all started when I owned a Wii U. It's not because it is a amazing console or anything it's just that people keep bashing it due to the lower specs and etc and that it has no games. I kinda agree about it having less games but seriously it's still a good hardware to be owned. I bought it just for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate though with New Mario Bros.2 and Nintendoland.

I am not worried about the 3DS at all because the support for 3rd party games and Nintendo right now is already enough the drive the 3DS until the end of its time. The problem lies on Wii U, where it needs more game announcement on E3. As far as I can tell, E3 will be that last resort for Nintendo to give Wii U the games and support that it deserve.

I hope that the next Xbox and PS4 announcement won't overshadow Nintendo's announcement. I'm really excited about the PS4 and I might buy it on day 1. Since I already own a Vita and if off-screen play is going to be available for all PS4 games on the Vita, it's going to be amazing! I can't wait for E3.
