Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu Episode 5-6

Sorry for being really late, things happened in life and I’ve just been really busy lately. It’s not like I don’t like this show or anything, it’s still is one of my most favorite this season. Things are progressing really well for the series and I really wish they just aired everything right away so I could just watch it all at once. While I was expecting some drama for a while now, it has yet to really happen. Most of it is still about Yakumo as he tries his best to find his form in rakugo. Romance in between, but not much progress as of yet.

Finally Yakumo has his own performance on the big stage, and he has never felt so alive in his life. He was definitely happy, and once he was on the stage, he was definitely a different person all together. Episode 6 was really good at showing how he found what his rakugo is. For who his rakugo was for and what not. So in the end it was for himself. Definitely Yakumo. The sad thing is I was hoping his rakugo would be for Miyokichi or something, but of course that’s basically impossible.

Sukeroku is soo good at rakugo though. He doesn’t even need to practice or do much to be good. Everything comes natural for him, I guess. Yakumo was so jealous though, but at the same time thankful for Sukeroku. If he has taken Sukeroku advice from the start, he would have found his rakugo for a long time already. Good thing he found a reason for doing rakugo now. Yakumo’s performance is actually more magnificent than Sukeroku’s. Both are really good at what they do, but their rakugo genre is really different.

Lets talk about Miyokichi. I like how fashionable she is. But the biggest surprise for me is when she didn’t even wear any make-up. She is so beautiful, I was taken aback. I really love a beautiful girl who doesn’t need make-up to look nice. Natural beauty. I’m really sad for Miyokichi though. She is so into Yakumo but yet he didn’t really show much love for her. I bet episode 7 is all about Miyokichi’s breakdown or some sort. I bet many man would have treated Miyokichi so nice though. It’s kinda weird why Yakumo can’t be more passionate about love, just like back then when he likes that cute girl. So in the end I guess he really didn’t end up with any girl? Because it would be a surprise if he actually had one.

Let the drama starts next week! I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be a lot about love, or not I’ll be really disappointed. Just how things will turn up I’m not sure, but the result is already clear anyway. It’s going to be good still, I can’t wait. The show is still as good as ever, animation wise still freaking awesome, and the story really makes it nice to watch with the element of rakugo and those traditional soundtracks. Now we just need to missing piece, some drama! Looking forward to it, and thanks for reading.

Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu Episode 4

I sense disturbance in the bromance. As always another good episode. I like how traditional this episode was, a bunch of Japanese culture all around, as well as some clash of culture from the west. There is bromance as well as romance this week. We know a lot more about Miyokichi as well. Things are getting interesting, and a lot of development is going on, but I think in the next 2 episode or so, we might get some drama soon. As always the animation is really well done, and all those traditional OST’s makes this show so good to watch.

I always like when Yakumo and Sukeroku talks together. They are really good buddies. The contrast in personality is what makes it dynamic and interesting. While I’m not sure how long the bromance will last, but it does feel that Miyokichi will change things up in the next few episodes. It seems Sukeroku has a liking for Miyokichi, but the Master wants her to pair up with Yakumo. Yakumo doesn’t look that interested, but Miyokichi is so beautiful and flirty, I think Yakumo has already fallen for her by force.

It’s kinda disturbing to see Yakumo and Miyokichi together though. I thought she is suppose to be with Sukeroku? Just how will things change, I wonder. Although I think we know the outcome already, the development is what makes it worth the watch, yes? This should be really good. I like that the rakugo is still a thing in the show too. They still managed to include a single rakugo play in each episode, and it was pretty entertaining to watch. I’m just glad the rakugo wasn’t that long, because you know if it’s too long, it’ll definitely bore me a bit.

I really like this Miyokichi girl, although I know a lot probably doesn’t like her. Seems a little too flirty, but I think she is just doing what the Master of the rakugo ask her to do? She is a geisha after all. Base on the preview, looks like some drama is happening already. A fight between Yakumo and Sukeroku maybe? Well that’s gonna be interesting. I think Yakumo and Miyokichi is probably gonna have some trouble of their own too. Miyokichi looks kinda down, because of Yakumo’s treatment to her maybe, bet it’s time for Sukeroku to shine. This gonna be good, can’t wait for the next episode. Thanks for reading guys.

Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu Episode 3

I really enjoyed the story of Yakumo’s past this week. It has a beginning and a happy ending. Although it’s not over yet, it was a nice way to wrap up this episode. We know more about Yakumo and his love life, as well as the history of rakugo. The decline of such art, and also the rise of it. This episode is definitely the best so far for me, and I’m sure there’s an even better one to come soon. We keep seeing only about the guys, it was kinda refreshing that there is actually more girls this time.

More about Yakumo this week. I like that they touched a bit about love this week. It was very sweet, but man I feel sorry for Yakumo. That kawaii girl that he loves, I wonder if we will ever see her again. I’m so sad about that kawaii girl, I feel a bit dead inside. She did say this might be goodbye though. MIGHT! So I shall ship them even if it seems impossible. That other pretty girl that seems to like Yakumo wasn’t bad either. I would totally marry her already, but Yakumo wasn’t interest about love anymore after what happened to that cute girl. Poor beautiful girl. What a sad love story. 2 girls, and both of them might never appear again. I was sad about that.

The war starts, and both Yakumo and Sukeroku were separated. Damn war! If there wasn’t one, that kawaii girl could have been together with Yakumo. But enough about that. Sukeroku and his rakugo master joined the military while Yakumo and the master’s wife lived somewhere safe outside Tokyo. While being separated, Yakumo love for rakugo increases and basically changed his life. He started practicing everyday while waiting for good news from Sukeroku and the master. He even does rakugo on a small scale. That part where Sukeroku returns was really touching and was what makes this episode so good for me. Despite rakugo being dead during the war, it was revived when the war was over. The storytelling was really good. Although it was short it has everything, they could even make a long version of it actually if they want to.

Overall really enjoyed this episode. Some love story, a little bit of rakugo and a lot about Yakumo and his past. I’m a bit depress about that kawaii girl and the other girl though, as you already know. At least they are showing us another girl next week, and this one is gonna be the real deal. I think I’ve never talk about the opening song of this show before. Just thought that I have to mention that the singer has a sexy voice. Next week’s episode is going to be an interesting one, can’t wait for that.

Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu Episode 2

This anime is really good. Without a doubt this show, and Boku dake ga Inai Machi tops the other anime this season for now. That jazzy background music is really good, and the contrast in character this week is what I like the most about this episode. The show continues from last week where Yakumo tells the story of his past with Sukeroku. It’s really good to know how both of them first started in the art of rakugo. The pacing is sorta similar to the 1st episode, and it’s still unique and refreshing to watch.

The story of Yakumo’s past is really interesting. It was really good because Sukeroku was around though. Sukeroku is so lively, it made the show really fun to watch. Such confidense and determination, it definitely reminds me of Yatorou, although Sukeroku is a lot more interesting and wiser if you compared those two. Yakumo on the other hand is really a sad fellow when he was young, good thing Sukeroku is there to make his life a lot more interesting. Sukeroku’s daughter thought Yakumo was the one behind Sukeroku’s death, but I really can’t see that ever happening. Just look at Yakumo before and now, a totally different guy, all thanks to Sukeroku. I bet he even admires him, but their rakugo style is what sets them both apart.

The contrast between them is really good, and I really like them both. That first encounter between them was really an interesting one, and that public bath scene was really good as well, if not a little touching. Sukeroku really acts like Yakumo’s big brother though, I kinda like that part. The part about them growing up is a bit too fast, but the pacing is just right in my opinion. The rakugo part is still what makes this show interesting. While Yakumo’s performance isn’t really that bad, but his attitude makes his performance a really boring one to watch. Sukeroku’s first performance on the other hand was really entertaining to watch, just what we need right after Yakumo’s boring rakugo.

The show this time is only 24 minutes long, but the rakugo makes it feel like it’s another 50 minutes watch for me. Another great episode, and i’m impressed again. I really like the jazzy ending song, it was nice to listen to. Animation wise it’s still pretty much the same quality as the first episode, so I’m please with that too. I’m thinking if Yakumo is going to continue about his past story, and the preview tell us yes. Looks like there might be some drama soon, probably. Looking forward for the next episode. Thanks for reading guys.

Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu First Impressions

As expected this show is really good. I enjoyed every minute of it. It was refreshing, something I haven’t seen done in any anime that I’ve watched so far. I think there is a few rakugo type of anime before, but this is actually my first one. Quite a unique form of art, think I’ve heard this from the radio before, long time ago. Rakugo is a form of entertainment in Japan, where a lone storyteller sits on the stage and tells a story by himself, using different pitches and tones, to act as different characters in a conversation. I enjoyed watching this way more than I expected. It was a pretty long anime, just about 50 minutes long. The characters is pretty loveable, the animation is good, great dialogues, josei, with a unique setting. What more can I ask!

Lets start with the characters, the main character is Yotarou, a guy who just got out of prison, he knows exactly where he’s heading first. After falling in love with a rakugo that was done in the prison by an artist named Yakumo, he is pretty determined to become his apprentice. That’s where it all started. I like Yotarou so far, he is very lively, expressive and really direct. A funny one as well. The other characters are pretty great as well, Yakumo the rakugo storyteller has an interesting character as well. He seems very calm, and very much has that characteristic of an old wise man. The other character is Konatsu, a very interesting girl, who acts like a tomboy and live a life of trying to be like his father. She really wants to follow her father’s path, but rakugo is only performed by men. She looks like a meany at first, but is very kind towards others.

Aside from the characters, the animation is really well done by Studio Deen. Everything from the settings are really well animated, and I really feel like watching something from the old days in Japan. It’s probably set around the 60’s or 70’s but the houses and everything really looks oldschool. A mix of traditional and modern setting, pretty unique. I really love the soundtrack that they use in this anime. You can hear all the Japanese music instruments from the soundtrack, and everything fits just well with the anime. The sound design is just great too. A very well produced anime.

The story seems good. Very serious, just the thing that I need from a josei anime. We don’t get much josei anime, so it’s just great to have one this season. There is a mix of drama so far, but pretty light on that. I find some part funny as well. The story revolves around rakugo. We don’t see those type of show that much, so it’s really a unique experience for me, actually a first for me. Although the rakugo is kinda long, it was still entertaining for me. I loved the little details during the performance like the zooming into their feet and hand gestures. It really makes it feel like we’re watching a live performance and gives the show an extra charm. For a first episode, I think it’s more than just an introduction to the series because it’s 50 minutes long. The length really did the show justice. I’m not sure if the next episode is going to be this long, but I think it’s probably just going to be around 24 minutes or so after this.

Overall this show tops most of the anime that I’ve watched so far for this season. It’s as good as Boku Dake ga Inai Machi for me. Actually I was a bit surprised that it’s this good. I got more than what I was hoping for. If you want something unique, you should give this show a try. I know many actually love this show as well, and was just as surprised as I am when they watch it. Really great start, now I’m excited for the next episode. Thanks for reading guys, there will be more first impressions coming up soon, so look forward to it. Bye for now. 🙂
